North Cheyenne Canyon is a city park directly to the west of this area. It features trails like the Columbine trail and Mt. Cutler, rock climbing, and the picturesque Helen Hunt Falls. Captain Jacks, another trail in the canyon, features some of the best single-track mountain biking in the state. Cheyenne Mountain School district 12 is the primary district in the west part of the area and its schools consistently rate at or near the top of all schools in the state and the nation in academic achievement. Colorado Springs Harrison District 2 serves the neighborhoods to the east as well. The very exclusive and private Colorado Springs School is also located here.
Given its proximity to Fort Carson, Southeast Colorado Springs is home to many military families. Stratmoor Valley, Stratton Meadows, Stratmoor Hills, Quail Ridge and Cheyenne Hills are all popular among the military for being close to Carson and having incredible foreclosure deals.
